How to Turn a Blog Post into an AI Explainer Video (Step by Step, 10 Minutes)

Your best-performing blog posts are content gold. A blog-to-video conversion gets you a YouTube embed, a LinkedIn-native asset, an in-article video, and a search-result rich snippet — from content you already paid to write. This guide shows you exactly how to turn a blog post into an AI explainer video with Golpo in about 10 minutes, with the prompt patterns that work, a real worked example, and how to scale to a whole content backlog via the API.

A blog post being transformed into an AI whiteboard explainer video — text on the left flowing into a hand-drawn video frame on the right

You spent two days writing that blog post. It pulled real organic search traffic for a few weeks, then the curve started flattening. The content is still good. The format is now the bottleneck. Most of the people you wanted to reach prefer to watch, not read — and the post is invisible on YouTube, LinkedIn-native feeds, TikTok, and in the new generation of AI search overviews that prefer pages with embedded video.

Why Convert a Blog Post to Video

Four concrete reasons, in priority order:

  • Search distribution. Embedding a video in an indexed blog post often makes the page eligible for video-rich snippets in Google. The same content earns a second listing in YouTube search if the video is uploaded there with the post URL in the description.
  • Native-format reach. LinkedIn, X, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube all favor native video. A blog post does not exist on any of those platforms. A 2-minute video version does.
  • AI search overviews. Google's AI Overviews, Perplexity, ChatGPT Search, and similar systems are increasingly likely to cite or surface pages with embedded video as the canonical answer for "how to" and explanatory queries.
  • Repeat-visit retention. Readers who skim once may rewatch a 2-minute video before sending it to a colleague. Forward-shares carry the post URL with them.

What Kinds of Posts Convert Best

Almost any text-based post can become a video. Some convert noticeably better than others:

  • How-to guides. Step-by-step content maps cleanly onto narrated whiteboard frames.
  • Listicles ("7 ways to…"). Each item becomes a beat in the video.
  • Concept explainers. Define-then-illustrate posts are the sweet spot.
  • Comparison posts. Two columns map naturally to a split-frame whiteboard structure.
  • Data-driven analyses. The video format shines when there are 2–3 numbers and one strong story arc.
  • FAQ posts. Each Q&A becomes a 15–30 second beat.

Posts that convert less well: thought-leadership essays (narrative without illustration hooks), highly conversational posts (where the voice is the value), and posts with proprietary inline screenshots that can't be redrawn.

Step-by-Step: Blog Post → AI Explainer Video

The full process takes about a minute of your time plus 10–15 minutes for Golpo to render.

  • Step 1 — Pick your input mode. Open video.golpoai.com. You have three options: From Prompt (paste a one-paragraph brief), From Script (paste your blog's narration version), or Upload Document (export the blog post as PDF and drop it in). For most blog posts, "From Prompt" + a brief is the fastest path.
  • Step 2 — Write the brief. Six lines: title of the post, target audience, the single takeaway, three sub-points, and the call to action. See the prompt patterns below.
  • Step 3 — Pick the visual style. Use Golpo Canvas (Whiteboard, Chalkboard Color, Editorial, Sharpie, Modern Minimal, Technical) for technical, financial, scientific, or product content. Use Golpo Sketch (Classic, Improved, Dry Erase, Crayon, Formal) for warmer, more casual content — culture, lifestyle, soft-skills.
  • Step 4 — Set duration. The Golpo dropdown supports 15 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, 2 min, 4 min, 8 min, 10 min, 15 min. For a typical 1,500-word blog post, 2 min hits the highlights; 4 min covers the post thoroughly.
  • Step 5 — Pick narration voice and language. Multiple AI voices across 40+ languages. Or upload your own narration audio (Business+).
  • Step 6 — Generate. The AI writes the script, illustrates each beat, narrates, and renders the final MP4.
  • Step 7 — Edit (optional). Frame editor lets you replace illustrations, swap or add images, edit text within frames, and upload your own reference images. Audio is locked once generated; to change narration, regenerate with a revised brief.
  • Step 8 — Distribute. Embed the video at the top of the blog post. Upload the MP4 to YouTube with the blog URL in the description. Native-upload to LinkedIn and X. Pull a 30-second clip for Shorts/Reels.

Three Prompt Patterns That Work

1. The "Listicle to Video" Pattern

For posts like "7 Ways to X" or "5 Mistakes to Avoid in Y":

Video version of a listicle post titled "[Title]". Audience: [persona]. Open with the pain that drives the search ("if X is happening to you…"). Cover the [N] items in the same order as the post — one beat per item, with a one-line explanation each. End with the CTA at the end of the post.

2. The "Concept Explainer" Pattern

For posts that define and illustrate one idea:

Concept explainer version of a blog post titled "[Title]". Audience: [persona] who have heard of [concept] but cannot define it cleanly. Open with a one-sentence definition. Build it with a single concrete example. End with the takeaway — what should the viewer be able to do or recognize after watching.

3. The "How-To" Pattern

For step-by-step guides:

Step-by-step explainer of "[Title]". Audience: [persona]. Cover the [N] steps in the same order as the post — one beat per step, plus what success looks like at the end. End with where to find the full guide.

Notice what's NOT in any of these: duration, visual style, voice, language. Those all go in the UI dropdowns. See the full Golpo Prompt Cheatsheet for the mental model.

A Real Worked Example

From the Golpo YouTube channel — a topical news explainer generated from a single one-paragraph brief, the same way you would convert a blog post on a current event:

Generated from a policy memo + a one-paragraph brief about the audience and the three takeaways — the same approach that turns a 1,500-word policy blog post into a 4-minute Canvas Editorial explainer.

For finance, finance-adjacent, or market-commentary blog posts, the vertical-orientation Pen-in-Hand style fits social distribution well:

NVIDIA stock prediction explainer — generated as a vertical 9:16 video for YouTube Shorts and LinkedIn-native distribution.

Common Mistakes

  • Pasting the entire blog post into the prompt. The AI will try to cover everything and the result will be shallow. Summarize the post in 6 lines (audience, takeaway, 3 sub-points, CTA) and let the AI write around that.
  • Putting duration or style in the prompt. Those are dropdowns. "Make a 2-minute Canvas-style video about X" is wasted text. Set them in the UI; describe content only in the prompt.
  • Skipping the audience. "Convert this blog post" produces a generic register. Name the actual viewer — "first-time home buyers," "engineering managers at Series B startups," "9th-grade biology students."
  • Trying to keep the blog's exact wording. Written prose and spoken narration have different rhythms. Let the AI rewrite for the ear. (If you need exact wording — for compliance or legal reasons — use Script Mode on Growth+ plans and paste the script verbatim.)
  • Not distributing the video. The blog-to-video conversion only pays off if you upload to YouTube, native-upload to LinkedIn/X, and embed at the top of the post.

How to Scale to a Whole Content Backlog

If you have a backlog of 50, 100, or 500 published blog posts, the manual one-by-one approach is impractical. The Golpo API (available on Business+ plans, included on Scale) lets you submit a batch:

  • One row per post. Build a spreadsheet with title, URL, target audience, takeaway, sub-points, CTA, and preferred style/duration.
  • One API call per row. Submit each row as a video generation request. See API Payload Examples for the exact request shape.
  • Poll for completion. Each video is ready in 10–15 minutes. The API returns the MP4 URL when done.
  • Auto-distribute. Hook the API output into your YouTube upload pipeline (yt-dlp / YouTube Data API) and your blog CMS to embed the video at the top of the post.

Most marketing teams run this as a one-time backfill, then add new posts to the pipeline as they publish. See the API access guide.

Distribution Checklist for Each Converted Post

  • Embed at the top of the blog post. Above the first paragraph if possible — Google often surfaces the embedded video in the SERP video carousel.
  • Upload to YouTube with the blog post URL in the first line of the description and the post title as the video title.
  • Native-upload to LinkedIn — LinkedIn's algorithm prefers native video over external links. Add the blog post URL in the first comment.
  • Native-upload to X (Twitter). Same logic.
  • 30-second Reel/Short. Trim the strongest 30 seconds and upload vertical-format to YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok.
  • Multilingual. Switch the Language dropdown in Golpo and regenerate for each language your audience speaks. Visuals stay; only narration changes.
  • Email newsletter. Embed the video at the top of the newsletter version of the post.

FAQ

How long does it take to convert one blog post?

About 1 minute of human time (writing the brief, picking settings) plus 10–15 minutes of rendering. Distribution adds another 5–10 minutes per channel.

Will the AI use my exact blog post copy?

In the default "From Prompt" mode, no — the AI rewrites for the ear. If you need exact wording, use Script Mode (Growth+ plans) and paste your script.

What if my blog post is very long?

For posts longer than ~3,000 words, the video at 4 min will hit the highlights. For posts that genuinely need 10+ minutes to cover, split into multiple videos — one per section — or generate a single 10-min or 15-min video on the Business+ plan.

Can I add my own brand visuals?

Yes. The frame editor lets you upload your own images into specific frames (Business+ for the frame editor included; Growth has it as a $200/mo add-on). Custom logos appear on Growth+ as an add-on or Business+ included.

Do I need to credit Golpo?

No. Videos generated on paid plans are yours to use commercially.

Can I do this for a whole content library at once?

Yes — via the API on Business+ plans. See How to Get API Access.
