Explainer Video vs Product Demo vs Tutorial: Why Golpo Can Combine All Three
An explainer establishes the problem, mechanism, and value. A product demo proves what the interface does. A tutorial teaches a repeatable task. Golpo can connect these jobs in one coherent video by combining generated scenes with approved screenshots, inserted clips, or screen recordings.

Explain why it matters, show that it works, and teach the next step, in one Golpo video. Golpo is built to be the complete workflow for that job. Start from the product brief, the help article, an approved script, or a recording. Golpo drafts the narration, plans the scenes, and holds the script for review before the render. Generated scenes carry the mental model. The screen recording you supply carries the proof.
An explainer, a demo, and a tutorial can all contain the same product. They differ because the viewer is asking a different question.
The three jobs
| Format | Viewer's question | Content | Typical next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Explainer | Why should I care, and how does this make sense? | Problem, mechanism, outcome, evidence | Learn more, start, book, or continue evaluating |
| Product demo | Does the product really do what you claim? | Real interface, workflow, inputs, outputs | Try the product or talk to sales |
| Tutorial | How do I complete this task correctly? | Exact steps, states, warnings, exceptions | Complete the task |
A real Golpo product explainer
Brand palette + typography + tagline
Product explainer with brand controls
The product brief specifies palette, typography, background, and opening and closing treatment.
Video Instructions
Use Golpo's brand palette: Golpo pink #FF2D6F and deep purple #1A0B33, on a clean white background. Open and close with the tagline 'Turn documents into video' rendered in bold Inter font.
Source: existing Golpo guide.
The video above follows those Video Instructions: Golpo pink and deep purple, a white background, and the tagline at the open and close. It is the branded explanation. Build the hybrid from it as three neighboring segments: the mental model, a real screen recording, and the task sequence, under a saved Custom Style.
Why a screen recording alone often under-explains
A recording can show where someone clicked. The viewer still needs the customer problem, the relationship between the parts, the reason for the sequence, and the result. An animation can carry that meaning. Give each format the job it does well, then place them next to each other.
Three segments in one video
Use the objection behind the explainer above: a buyer who wants to see that a document becomes a video, and then needs the next step. The three segments sit in one Canvas video.
| Segment | Job | What carries it |
|---|---|---|
| Mental model | Why it matters | Generated scenes: document, script review, finished explanation |
| Proof | Show that it works | A screen recording of the product doing that path, inserted with Own Media |
| Task | Teach the next step | The approved clicks, each in its own scene |
Choose Canvas Expanded when the task steps need room. Compact groups components; Expanded spreads them. Sketch is the hand-drawn treatment. Notebook is Compact only. Color begins at Growth. Custom Scenes, on Growth and higher and on Pay As You Go, is how you map the sentences: one scene for the model, one scene for the recording, and one scene per task step. You can move those boundaries, and split or combine scenes, within the engine limit. The map does not rewrite the narration.
In Prompt Mode, Golpo drafts the “why it matters” narration from the product brief. Edit script before creating video, and approve it. When the task wording is already approved, Script Mode speaks those words: about 1,050 characters per selected minute, with visual directions in Video Instructions. Prompt Mode with that review is a full professional path. Script Mode is for wording that must be spoken exactly.
On the proof scene, insert the screen recording with Own Media. The guide to inserting your own images covers the same supplied-media path for stills. Own Media is on Business and higher and on Pay As You Go. The recording you insert is the evidence of what the product does. A generated drawing of a button is an illustration.
Brand instructions and a saved style
The Video Instructions on the explainer above set the palette, the white background, and the tagline for that render. A saved Custom Style is how the next video reuses the look. Create a named style from a reference frame, a short clip, or a written description of that palette, save it in My Styles, and apply it in Canvas or Sketch. Custom Style is on Business and higher. API reuse also needs API access. Review the next video against that reference. Custom Style reuses the visual language. It does not lock typography or reproduce the reference pixel for pixel.
When a presenter helps, and when the interface needs the frame
AI Presenter places a stock presenter, or a custom presenter from an authorized photo, beside the explanation. Layouts include side-by-side, circle, full-screen, and Auto. Auto gives busy visuals more of the frame. Leave the presenter off when the viewer has to read a screen recording. Use Auto when a presenter should stay and the interface is busy. AI Presenter is on Creator and higher and on Pay As You Go. A synthetic presenter is a generated face. Presenter API support is described as coming soon.
Picture-in-Picture keeps a person you recorded visible in an overlay or split screen. That is a recording. AI Presenter is a photo-based or stock face beside the animation. Own Narration uses your audio, or the soundtrack of a video you upload, to drive new visuals. The recording sets the duration and the spoken language. An audio-only file drives the pictures from the soundtrack and does not add a face. Picture-in-Picture and Own Narration are on Business and higher and on Pay As You Go.
The hybrid workflow
- Source. The approved product brief, the help paragraph for the task, and a short screen recording of the behavior.
- Settings. Canvas Expanded. Custom Scenes for the model, the recording, and each task step. A Custom Style saved from the brand reference above. Own Media on the proof scene. AI Presenter off on the cut the buyer must read; Auto on a presenter cut that introduces the model. Picture-in-Picture when the walkthrough is a recording of a person who should stay visible.
- Script review. Approve the reason, the claim the recording will show, and the task wording before the render.
- Result. The embedded file is the branded explanation. Run these settings to produce the hybrid, with the source recording, the script, the inserted media, and the style saved for the next one.
- One correction. If a generated scene draws a control the product does not have, frame-edit the label or replace that moment with the real screenshot. Frame editing changes the picture. The soundtrack stays. It is on Business and higher and on Pay As You Go, charged on the selected duration of that version. A wrong spoken step means a script change and a new render.
- One reuse. The next buyer objection uses the same saved Custom Style, a new recording, and a new script.
Plan, duration, and credits
A standard video is 1 credit per selected minute, including a video that inserts your media or uses a saved style. Own Narration follows the length of the recording at that same rate. The brand video above is shown without a selected duration, so use the duration you select. On Pay As You Go, script review is 10 percent of the charge after the script and 90 percent after the video. The Free plan is not a downloadable publishing workflow. Confirm the current plan gates on the pricing page.
- Custom Scenes: Growth and higher, and Pay As You Go. Color begins at Growth.
- AI Presenter: Creator and higher, and Pay As You Go.
- Custom Style, Own Media, Own Narration, Picture-in-Picture, and frame editing: Business and higher, and Pay As You Go.
Which video should you make first?
- Cold audience: begin with the explainer segment.
- Buyer understands the category and doubts the product: put the real recording next to the model.
- Existing user needs to complete a task: give that task its own scenes.
- The objection needs both a reason and a look at the interface: make the three segments in one video.
What to check
- The recording and screenshots are the current product, and you have the rights to show them.
- Generated drawings of the interface stay illustrations. The inserted recording is the evidence.
- Spoken steps match the approved script.
- On a recording the viewer must read, the presenter is off, or Auto has given the interface the room.
- The homepage, the help center, and any analytics stay in your own tools. Golpo produces the video.
Stock Avatar videos use 3 credits per minute. Custom avatar videos use 5.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an explainer and a product demo?
An explainer gives the viewer the mental model and the reason to care. A product demo shows the interface operating. The two can sit in the same Golpo video as neighboring segments.
Is a tutorial the same as a demo?
A demo shows that the product does the thing. A tutorial teaches the viewer to complete one task, with the sequence, the interface state, and the exception each given room.
Which video belongs on a SaaS homepage?
Use the explainer segment when visitors need the problem and the value before the interface makes sense. Add the real recording when seeing the product is the evidence they need. Teach the next task in the same video when that visitor will do the step.
Can Golpo include real product footage?
Yes. On Business and higher and on Pay As You Go, Own Media inserts your screenshots, clips, or screen recording beside the generated scenes. Those supplied frames are the evidence of what the product does. A generated drawing of an interface is an illustration.
Should I make three separate videos?
Make one video when the same buyer needs the reason, the proof, and the next step. Split the library when the audience or the job is different. A short awareness explainer, a focused demo, and a task tutorial can still share a saved style.
When should a presenter stay off the interface?
Leave AI Presenter off when the viewer has to read a screen recording. Use the Auto layout when a presenter should stay and the visuals are busy, so the interface keeps more of the frame. AI Presenter is a stock face, or a face from an authorized photo, on Creator and higher and on Pay As You Go. A synthetic presenter is a generated face. Presenter API support is described as coming soon.
How is Picture-in-Picture different from AI Presenter?
Picture-in-Picture keeps a person you recorded visible in an overlay or split screen. AI Presenter places a stock presenter, or a custom presenter from a photo, beside the explanation. An audio-only Own Narration file drives the visuals from the soundtrack and does not add a face. Picture-in-Picture and Own Narration are on Business and higher and on Pay As You Go.
Make the video for one objection that needs both a reason and the real interface.
Choose the objection you will hear in the next sales or onboarding conversation. Bring the brief, the approved steps, and a short screen recording, and create that video in Golpo.
